After breakfast check out from the hotel & transfer to Nuwara Eliya. Hanuman ji temple, Tea plantation & Tea Factory….. The tea factories found on most tea estates play a vital role in the final value of the manufactured tea. Regardless of how carefully the leaf has been grown and plucked, if the processes at the factory are not carried out properly the end result will be of a poor quality. A tea factory is a multi-storied building, almost always sited on the tea estates to ensure that the time between plucking and processing tea is kept to a minimum. Once the tea leaves arrive at the factory they are spread across the upper floors of the building in troughs – a process known as withering. Withering removes all excess moisture in the leaf to make it pliable. Proceed to Nuwara Eliya & check in to the hotel. Dinner & Overnight stay at Araliya green hills, Nuwara Eliya

  • Day 4 :Nuwara Eliya

Breakfast in the hotel. Nuwara Eliya - The ‘Little England’ of Sri Lanka, is set against beautiful backdrops of Mountains, Valleys, Waterfalls and Tea Plantations. It is supposed to be one of the coolest places in the Island, but it is really just like an English spring day, although the temperature does drop at night. All around Nuwara Eliya you will see evidence of the British influence, houses like country cottages or Queen Ann style mansions. The Victoria Park, in the middle of the town, is a lovely place for a stroll or a picnic. Seasons may be absent elsewhere in Sri Lanka, but here you can read them by the flowers, which bloom in the spring (March to May) and the fall (August and September). These are the “seasons” when low-country folk flock to Nuwara Eliya to escape the sea level heat and humidity. Visit seetha amman temple & Gregorey lake. Gregory Lake 3.jpg

Gregory Lake

Gregory Lake was created in 1873 by the British era Governor at the same time, Sir William Gregory, supposedly for the purpose of providing electricity. The lake was mostly used for leisure time and recreation after it was built. Recently, the hilly district of Nuwara Eliya received a complete facelift by the government. The lake is also the landing location of amphibious aircraft belonging to the Sri Lankan Air taxi service which provides scenic domestic flights in Sri Lanka. In addition to this Colombo can be reached in a very short half hour by using the newly built highway, in case of a visitor needing to return to the capital immediately. Hence, Gregory Lake is a family friendly destination attracting visitors from all the corners of the world.

Tea Garden & Plantations

Head for the Pedro Tea Estate which lies nestled amongst the scenic beauty of Sri Lanka’s hill country, situated in the shadows of the country’s highest mountain Pidurutalagala, just 3.5 km from NuwaraEliya. Walk through the tea fields and watch closely how the colorfully clad tea pluckers carefully pick the prized “two leaves and bud” that go into making the world finest Pure Ceylon Tea. Try your hand at picking the leaves; chat with the pickers (using hand gestures for they may not understand the language you speak), let them show you how it is correctly done. Next take a guided tour of the tea factory to see and understand the intricate procedure of tea processing. The full process involves Tea Plucking, Withering, Rolling, Fermentation, Firing and Sorting/Grading before it is bulk packed to be sent to the Tea Auctions in Colombo. Watching and understanding the process will take a couple or more hours at the end of which you will have acquired a good knowledge of tea processing, its intricacies and the workings that goes into making the Pure Ceylon Tea, known as the finest in the world, that’s brewing far across the oceans. You will also have the opportunity to see and learn about the tea types, which are sorted by the size of the leaf; the large leaf teas fetching higher prices in comparison to the dust grades.
