Explore Chew Jetty

Chew Jetty is a village that was built by Chinese immigrants, it is also known as Clan Jetty and consists of eight jetties, whose names are based on the surnames of the eight jetties available, the surnames being Lee, Peng Aun, Chew, Mixed Clans, Koay, Yeoh, Tan. The name is kept as Chew as it is one of the famous surnames. Each jetty consists of several houses which are connected by a wooden walkway bridge over the water. It is one of the oldest, liveliest coastal settlements with about 1500 people living today, with only ten families previously living there. Talking about the history of the Chew Jetty, in the beginning, the place was filled with wooden planks and the firewood was placed randomly, it was not a structured place, but with the construction of the Quay started in 1882 The same waterfront featuring small public landing stages was also developed and then started small. The business of loading and unloading goods from boats. At that time people started building small huts so that they could work and live near the port. For tourists, this place is quite attractive though it has empty huts but is kept neat and provides all facilities like e-air-condition, television, fridge etc. The event of worship of the god of heaven or the sky god is held once a year and attracts a large number of people. You can also enjoy watching and doing dragon dance, lion dance and various local foods. It is a beautiful place to visit and learn about the struggles faced by Chinese immigrants.
