City Tour Of St. Petersburg

Russia is filled with beautiful buildings and spectacular landscapes, each unique and breathtaking in its own way. But none can quite compare to Saint Petersburg. Founded by Peter the Great and named in his honor, the city has seen many functions throughout the years. It was a retreat of the Tsar and his family during Russia's imperial years, and all grand imperial residences are still available to tour. Saint Petersburg is a very young city compared to old European capitals and, probably, the only city in the world that has acquired so much historic significance in such a short time. It was founded in 1703 as an outlet to the sea, which was very important for Russia's future development from both strategic and economical points of view. The tour starts from your hotel. You will get acquainted with all city's major highlights: the Winter Palace, former residence of the Russian tsars, St. Isaac's Cathedral, the Spilled Blood church, Kazan cathedral, the Admiralty. The guide will take you down Nevsky Prospect, main street of St. Petersburg. You will see the main squares and architectural ensembles of the city, beautiful bridges and Neva river embankments. Your guide will show you our legendary Cruiser Aurora, Log cabin of Peter the Great, University, Point of Vasilievsky island, Egyptian Sphinxes, Menshikov and Yusupov palaces, monuments to Peter the First and Catherine the Second. At the most beautiful places the guide will offer you to make a stop for taking photos.

Visit to Hermitage Museum

St. Petersburg's most popular visitor attraction, and one of the world's largest and most prestigious museums, the Hermitage is a must-see for all first-time travellers to the city. With over 3 million items in its collection, it also definitely rewards repeat visits, and new-comers can only hope to get a brief taste of the riches on offer here, from Impressionist masterpieces to fascinating Oriental treasures. One estimate has it that you would need eleven years to view each exhibit on display for just one minute, so many visitors prefer to organize a guided tour to ensure they have time to catch all the collection's highlights. Art aficionados, however, may find it more rewarding to seek out for themselves the works that they are particularly interested in.

The Lower Park Of Peterhof

150 fountains decorate the park within an area of 102,5 hectares. Including the trick fountains: the "Little Oak", the "Umbrella", "Little firs", the "Water road" and "Benches", which are the most popular fountains among children and adults.

The fountains plumbing scheme was completed between 1721 and 1722. Peter the Great together with the first hydraulics engineer in Russia, Vasily Tuvolkov, developed this system. It is an outstanding achievement of the 18th century technology. About 14 miles of ducts and piping were constructed. Water for the fountains was flowing under its own pressure without the aid of any pumps

The main idea behind most of the decorations in the park is memorizing Russian victory over the Swedes in 1721, ensuring the outlet to the Baltic Sea for our country. The coast of the Gulf of Finland was irrigated and fertilized to lay out the formal French garden here. The proximity to the Gulf of Finland coast was the most important idea for Peter – the possession of that coast was the main achievement of the Northern war.

Today the number of fountains in Peterhof is over 150, and all of them are playing according to the principle of communicating vessels. Each fountain has its own unique design. The overall area of the park is about 250 acres.
