Day wise travel itinerary

  • Day 1 :Guwahati Airport - Shillong (60 KMs / 2 hrs)

     Welcome on arrival in Guwahati Airport/Station and drive to Shillong. En route witness the Umiam Lake or Barapani - is the biggest artificial lake in Meghalaya in midst of sylvan hills adorned by Khasi pines & peerless beauty.

    If time permits visit Cathedral of Marry and Ward's Lake. Evening free at leisure to explore the region on own. You may take a walk to the famous Police Bazaar for shopping. Overnight in Shillong.

  • Day 2 :Shillong - Cherrapunjee - Shillong

    After breakfast drive to Cherrapunjee, the wettest place on the earth, for an awesome day trip. En route visit the famous Elephant Falls. At Sohra, stop at the Duwan Sing Syiem view point for mesmerizing views of the Hills.

    In Cherrapunjee be witness to the gorgeous Seven Sisters (Nohsngithiang) Falls and Nohkalikai Falls. Later take a soft cave walk inside the Mawsmai Cave. The limestone cave is a natural wonder with innumerable formations inside it. Also visit the Garden of Caves. Drive back to Shillong for overnight stay.

    Note: Most of the waterfalls are dry during winter season.

  • Day 3 :Shillong - Mwallynong - Shillong

    After breakfast drive to Mwallynong, the cleanest village in Asia, also known as 'God's own Garden'. With over 80 households, the village gives the ambiance of walking in a well maintained park ! You will also be acquainted to the Khasi lifestyle, their culture and economy.

    A trek to the nearby Rewai Village is another interesting activity. Walk down a flight of almost 100 steps to witness nature's wonder, living-root bridge. The bridges are tangles of massive thick roots, which the local people inter-twine to form a bridge that can hold several people at a time. The root bridges, may be up to over a hundred feet long and take ten to fifteen years to become fully functional, but they become very strong in the process. The bridges live and keep growing and strengthen over time. The useful lifespan of the bridges, is thought to be 500-600 years.

    Later drive to Dawki, a village of the Jaintia community whose prime occupation of fishing. Be mesmerized by the beauty of the Umngotriver. The Umngot itself is a prime fishing spot for fishermen of the villages. The river is also famous for its crystal clear water, so clear that when seen from a distance, it appears as if the boat is floating in mid-air! The Umngot river is the natural boundary between RiPnar or Jaintia Hills with HimaKhyrim of Khasi hills over which is a single span suspension bridge was constructed. This is the gateway to Bangladesh where major export and import transactions take place. Enjoy an amazing country boat river ride (at additional cost). Drive up to the Bangladesh border.

    Later proceed to Shillong for overnight stay.

    Note: It is advisable to carry packed lunch to Mwallynong.

  • Day 4 :Shillong - Kaziranga
     After Breakfast drive to Kaziranga. Check in Hotel. Overnight at Kaziranga.Kaziranga, the World Heritage Site is the oldest park in Assam & is located on the banks of the Brahmaputra River. Kaziranga National Park is a natural habitat for conservation of biologically diverse flora & fauna. It is 
    inhabited by the world’s largest population of one-horned rhinoceroses besides sheltering about 15 species of India’s threatened mammals. There are numerous other major wildlife fauna.

  • Day 5 :Kaziranga

    Early morning go for Elephant ride @5-30 A.M/6: 30 A.M. (Subject to operation and allotment from forest department) . Return for Breakfast to hotel. After breakfast proceed for Jeep safari in the Central Range. With Kohora as the entry point, the Central Range covers the Daphlang and Kathpora. Later enjoy Local Village & Tea Garden (Outer View) tour. Overnight at Kaziranga.

  • Day 6 :Kaziranga - Bomdila

     Morning after breakfast drive to Bomdila.At a height of 8OOO ft., Bomdila is a small town famous for its Buddhists monasteries, magnificent valleys and Himalayan landscapes. Evening free at leisure.

  • Day 7 :Bomdila - Tawang

     Morning after breakfast, drive to Tawang (10,000 ft). En route drive pass the unique Dirang Valley. Also witness the snowcapped Sella Pass at 13700 ft, Sella Lake and the Jaswant Garh War Memorial. Overnight in Tawang.

    Jaswant Garh War Memorial : Legend has it that Jaswant (Mahavir Chakra Awardee (Posthumous) of 4th BatallionGarhwal Rifles), fought a lone battle against the invading Chinese during the 1962 war. His spirit is still believed to protect the place.

    SelaPass : @13700 ft, the Sela Pass is is snow-covered (full or partial) all through the year and has breathtaking mystic views. Close to the Pass is the beautiful Sela Lake, a heart-shaped lake chiseled between the mountains, which intensifies the beauty of the region. The Lake is mostly frozen in winter. The Sela Pass is the main route to access Tawang town and is located 78 km before reaching Tawang.

  • Day 8 :Tawang

     After breakfast, visit the Tawang Monastery, Urgelling Monastery, Buddha Statue. Later visit the War Memorial commemorating the bravery of the Indian heroes of the Indo-China war of 1962. Witness the light & sound show in the evening. Overnight in Tawang.

    Tawang is the beautiful land of the Monpa tribes. 'The Land of Dawn-lit Mountains' at 3500 mts gives you unparallel purity of nature.

    The Tawang Monastery, also known as the "GALDEN NAMGYEL LHATSE" is one of the largest Lamaseries of Mahayana sect in Asia and is the largest of its kind in India. The Monastery is 400 year old and is adorned with the 18 feet high statue of Lord Buddha. It stands at 10,000 feet amidst the exotic Himalayan ranges and overlooks the Tawang-Chu valley. The Urgelling Monastery is located 5 km from Tawang city, and is the birth place of the 6th Dalai Lama, born in the 17th century. The monastery was established by the Lama UrgenSangpo in the 15th century.

  • Day 9 :Day Trip To Bumla Pass

    After breakfast proceed for an excursion to Sangestar Lake, Bum La Pass and China Border (subject to permission from Indian Army). Overnight in Tawang.

    The Sangestar Lake, or more popularly known as the Madhuri Lake, is about 20 kms from Tawang, en route to the road leading to Bum La Pass. The lake is surrounded by the majestic snow-capped mountains and a marvelous valley offering spectacular views.

    The Bum La Pass is one of the four officially agreed BPM (Border Personnel Meeting) point between Indian Army and People's Liberation Army of China for regular consultations and interactions between the two armies, which helps in defusing face-offs. The other BPM points in India are - Chushul in Ladakh, Nathu La in Sikkim and Lipulekh Pass in Uttarakhand.

  • Day 10 :Tawang - Dirang

     Morning proceed to Dirrang. Enroute visit Jung Falls. Check in Hotel and overnight stay at Dirrang.

    Jung Falls :The Nuranang falls (original name) @6000 feet is located about 40 km before reaching Tawang is famed as one of the most stunning waterfalls in North East India. The falls height is about 100 meters. The legend about the waterfalls goes that it is named after a Monpa girl Nura who aided an Indian soldier during the 1962 Sino-Indian War.

  • Day 11 :Dirang To Guwahati

    After breakfast drive to Guwahati. Evening free at leisure. Overnight in Guwahati.

  • Day 13 :Arrival Guwahati Airport (GAU) / Railway Station – Shillong (5002 Ft / 1525 Mts, 140 Kms / 03 to 04 Hrs drive approx)

    Guwahati (1148 Ft / 350 Mts)

    On arrival at Guwahati Airport / Railway Station & transfer to Shillong. Enroute visit Umium Lake, a majestic placid lake with its surrounding sylvan hills. On arrival at Shillong, check in at your hotel. Overnight stay at Shillong.

  • Day 14 :Shillong – Excursion to Cherrapunjee - Shillong Cherrapunjee(4690Ft / 1430 Mts,60Kms / 02to 03 Hrs drive approx oneway)

    After breakfast, today go a day excursion to Cherrapunjee – the place on the earth. Enroute visit Elephant falls. At Cherrapunjee visit Garden of Caves, Arwah Cave / Mawsmai Cave, Seven Sisters Falls and Nohkalikai Falls. Later drive back to Shillong. Overnight in Shillong.

  • Day 15 :Shillong – Excursion to Mawlynnong – Dawki - Shillong Mawllynnong (4906 Ft / 1496 Mts, 80 Kms / 03 to 04 Hrs drive approx oneway) Dawki Lake (5904 Ft / 1800 Mts, 30 Kms / 01 to 02 Hrs drive approx)

    Wake up early and have your breakfast and drive to Mawlynnong. Today you can explore the cleanest village Mawlynnong. You can take the sky walk to have a spectacular view of the Single living Root Bridge.

    After lunch drive to Dawki. Dawki is the gateway to Bangladesh where major export and import transactions take place. It is a splendid drive of 30 kilometers passing through deep gorges and ravines, which is certainly a thrilling experience. On approaching Dawki is the Umngot River, The Umngot River is the natural boundary between Ri Pnar or Jaintia Hills with Hima Khyrim of Khasi hills over which a single span suspension bridge was constructed. Drive back to Shillong for overnight stay.

  • Day 16 :Shillong – Shillong Local sightseeing - Kaziranga Kaziranga National Park (197 Ft/ 60 Mts, 240 Kms / 06 to 07 Hrs drive approx)

    After breakfast visit Don Bosco Museum (Sunday Closed) & Ward’s Lake (Closed on Tuesday) and drive to Kaziranga. Upon arrival at Kaziranga, check in at hotel. Overnight stay at Kaziranga.

    Kaziranga National Park:

    In the heart of Assam, covering an area of 430 sq-kms, is inhabited by the world's largest population of one-horned rhinoceroses, as well as many mammals, including tigers, elephants, panthers and bears, and thousands of birds. In 1985, it was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO for its unique natural environment.

  • Day 17 :Kaziranga – Local Sightseeing – Dirang (Long & Hectic Drive) Kaziranga National Park (197 Ft / 60 Mts) Dirang (250 km / 06 to 07 Hrs)

    After breakfast go for 01 Jeep Safari (subjected to availability & operational condition) to one Range. Transfer to Dirang check in at hotel. Overnight stay at Dirang.

    Optional:

    1. Entry ticket & Jeep safari are all regulated and controlled by the forest Dept. Govt. of Assam. We do not have any control on the booking of entry ticket & Jeep safari.

    2. If there is an increase in the cost for jungle activities by the Forest Department / hike in fuel price, then there will be supplement cost applicable on & above the quoted package cost.

  • Day 18 :Dirang – Local Sightseeing - Tawang Tawang (10000 Ft / 3048 Mts, 160 Kms / 06 to 07 Hrs drive approx)

    After breakfast drive to Tawang, enroute you will visit Sella Pass and Sella Lake situated at an altitude of 13476 ft. Also visit Jaswant Ghar and before reaching Tawang visit the Nunarang fall. Reach Tawang and check in to the Hotel. Overnight at Tawang.

  • Day 19 :Tawang – Bumla Pass, Madhuri (ShunGatser) Lake & PTSO Lake - Tawang Tawang (10000 Ft / 3048 Mts)

    Today morning after early breakfast, you will drive to Bumla Pass which is located about 37 km away from Tawang at the Indo-China border over 15,200 ft above sea level. A further drive will take you to visit high altitude lake called as Shunga-tser Lake, popularly known as Madhuri Lake located 35, kms away from Tawang near the China Border. The drive to Shunga-tser Lake is full of thrill and one can still see the war bankers that had been used during the Chinese aggression in 1962. Nestled amidst the pristine mountains and picturesque surrounding, It was formed in the aftermath of the 1950 earthquake. Prior to the earthquake, this piece of land used to be employed as the grazing ground for the cattle. The evidence of it can be seen in the protruding trunks of the dead trees from the middle of the lake. The lake has been under supervision of Army men, who have also arranged for a cafeteria nearby. Tourists can relish on the delicious Momos, Maggis topped with a cup of tasty coffee or tea. Tourists can also take to trekking around the lake while enjoying the gentle lashes of the pleasant breeze around. During return take a photo stop at the beautiful PTSO lake en route (17 kms away from Tawang, Pangong Tang Tso Lake popularly known as PT Tso which is an extremely scenic drive with bird’s eye view of the township below). Later in the afternoon drive back to hotel. On the way back visit Ani Gompha. Rest of the evening at leisure. Overnight at hotel.

    1.   Our vehicles are not allowed to do PTSo lake, Madhuri lake & Bumla Pass Sightseeing. Local vehicle will be provided for the same. We have no control on this local vehicle which may be a combination of Non AC Tat Sumo/Xylo etc.

    2.   Bumla la pass is a border between India & China, hence additional formalities are involved, Kindly refer enter & documentation formalities

    After breakfast, today visit Tawang Monastery. Later drive to Dirang.

    After breakfast visit Gontse Rabgyaling Monastery (Upper Gonpa), Thub-ChogGatsel Ling Monastery (Lower Gonpa). Later transfer to Guwahati. Upon reaching, check in & over night at Guwahati.

Sela pass

Sela pass is one of the most visited places in Arunachal Pradesh and this place can be reach via roadways from route number 13 from Tawang. November to February is considered the best time to visit sela pass. While sela pass does get heavy snow during winters there is no stopping to experiencing that either. One such spectacular and famous lakes in arunachal Pradesh is sela lake, it is also called as a paradise lake because of its appeal and beauty.

Urgelling monastery

Urgellinggompa is at a distance of around 3 kms from tawang township and is reckoned to be the birthplace of the 6thdalailama ,tsangyangtashi. The monastery was built in 1487 AD here and his holiness the 6thdalai lama was born in 1683 and resided in urgelling village. It is a small monastery that holds great significance for the people of Buddhist faith.

Ani gompa

Gyangong Ani Gompa in Tawang Arunachal Pradesh is a beautiful Nunnery, having about 50 Buddhist Nuns. The Nunnery is located on top of a beautiful hillock about 5 km away in the north of Tawang. Founded by Mera Lam LodreGyamtso, the Nunnery was subsequently offered by him to his elder sister. This Ani Gompa is under the control of Tawang Monastery. The Tawang monastery provides for the every day needs of the nuns and their monastery. The Location of nunnery and the customs being followed here by the nuns reminds one of a bygone era, when Buddhism was preached in a calm and serene atmosphere under the shades of a tree.

it was founded by Merag Lama Lodre Gyamtso (founder of the main Tawang Gompa) for his elder sister.

Sungester Lake

The Sangestar Tso, formerly called Shonga-tser Lake and popularly known as the Madhuri Lake, is located on the way from Tawang to Bum La Pass in Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh, near Indo-China border above 15,200 ft above sea level.Sangestar Tso is located about 22 miles (35 km) north of Tawang and 4 miles (6.4 km) west of Bum La Pass, which is a border trading point between India and China.The Taktsang Chu river that originates below the Takpo Shiri glacier to the north, flows through this region. It flows west and then southwest to join the Nyamjang Chu river 8 miles (13 km) downstream. The Taktsang Gompa is within the area, 1.5 miles (2.4 km) to the west.

Bum La Pass

The Bum La Pass is a border pass between Tibet's Cona County and India's Tawang district in Arunachal Pradesh. It is 37 km away from the town of Tawang and 43 km from the town of Cona. The pass currently serves as a trading point between Tawang and Tibet.

1962 Sino-Indian War

The road to Bum La is also a historical route, the People's Liberation Army of China invaded India during the 1962 Sino-Indian War. Here in Bum La Pass one of the fiercest battle took place in the 1962 Sino-Indian War.

Opening of Trade Route in 2006

In 2006, Bumla pass was re-opened to traders for the first time in 44 years. Traders from both sides of the pass were permitted to enter each other's territories, in addition to postal workers from each country.

The pass, at 4,310 m, connects the towns of Kalimpong and Gangtok to the villages and towns of the lower Chumbi Valley.
