Day wise travel itinerary

  • Day 1 :Cochin - Kumarakom (160 kms, 4 hrs)
    Arrive Kochi (colonial name Cochin) meet the assistance and transfer to Kumarakom / Alleppey. 
    Kumarakom - It is popularly known as the ‘Venice of East’, this exotic backwater village consists of a cluster of island villages in and around the Vembanad Lake.  Kerala offers some world best Ayurvedic treatments, giving you a complete relaxation of mind, body & soul. You can try the same at the resort at additional cost. 
    On arrival at Kumarkom/Alleppey check into the hotel. 
    Rest of the day at leisure or enjoy resorts facilities.   
    Evening you can enjoy sunset cruise on Vembanad Lake. 
    Dinner and Overnight stay at the hotel in Kumarakom.

  • Day 2 :Kumarakom
    Today Morning after Breakfast go for a village walk.  
    Later visit Kottayam city for some shopping of famous silk sarees of south india. 
    Afternoon return to the hotel. 
    The peaceful glory of Kumarakom is enjoyed best by soothening of senses and relaxation of mind, body, and soul. Indulge in some good ayurvedic spa treatments in the hotel(at additional cost). In the evening enjoy the beautiful, charming and alluring sun setting on the horizon. Do not miss to see it in the evening time, the perfect sunset will be there for just five minutes, you got to see this on perfect timing.
    One can also enjoy the Kathakali Show and Kalaripayattu - a traditional martial art form of Kerala, performed by local artists.

  • Day 3 :Kumarakom - Kovalam (165 kms, 5 hrs)
    Today morning after Breakfast check out early and drive to Kovalam/Poovar. 
    Kovalam : breathtakingly beautiful – a heaven of peace and tranquility an idyllic touristdestination in God’s own country. Backed by precipitously mounting headlands and covered by fertilecoconut palms, the beaches, especially the southernmost part of lighthouse beach, is a magnificent beach destination located only 19 kms, from the Trivendrum city.
    Poovar : The origin of the name "Poovar" has a story related to Marthanda Varma (king of Tranvancore). Before that it was called Pokkumoosapuram. During internal riots in Travancore and while escaping from the Ettuveetil Pillamar (Lords of the Eight Houses), the king reached Poovar. It was a spring season and the trees on either sides of the Neyyar River were full of flowers. These flowers fell into the river making it more attractive. On seeing this pleasant scenery, Marthanda Varma commented that this was poo-var, a conjunction of the Malayalam words for "flower" and "river". Poovar forms an estuary - the wide part of a river at the place where it joins the sea.
    On arrival in Kovalam visit Light house beach to enjoy some water sports activities. The water activities which are offered by the sports clubs include parasailing, snorkelling, windsurfing and backwater cruise.

  • Day 4 :Kovalam (Excursion to Kanyakumari)
    Today morning after Breakfast visit the places in Trivendrum 
    Shri Padmanabhswamy Temple : Shri Padmanabhaswamy temple exhibits exceptionally beautiful architecture which is a blend of Tamil and authentic Kerala style. Featuring elegantly carved walls and mesmerizing aura of serenity, this place is indeed a holy abode. 
    Women has to wear saree inside the temple while men should be dressed in a Dhoti.
    Timings: Morning hours: 3:30 AM – 4:45 AM (Nirmalya Darshanam), 6:30 AM – 7:00 AM, 8:30 AM – 10:00 AM, 10:30 AM – 11:00 AM, 11:45 AM – 12 PM. Evening hours: 5:00 PM – 6:15 PM, 6:45 PM – 7:20 PM.
    Napier Museum : Halcyon Castle, also known as Napier Museum, was built in 1932 by Sri Rama Varma Valiya Koil Thampuran as a summer retreat. Sri Rama Varma sold this palace to Kerala Government in 1964. One can visit the palace to see the architecture.
    Later visit Kanyakumari (Optional cost) : Kanyakumari is the southernmost point of peninsular India and the meeting point of three oceans-the Bay of Bengal, the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean. Besides its importance as a Hindu pilgrim center, it is famous for its beautiful views of sunrise and sunset over the waters. 
    Places to see in Kanyakumari.
    Vivekananda Rock Memorial – An iconic monument, the Vivekananda Rock Memorial consists of two main structures. An exciting ferry ride takes the visitors to the small rock island.
    Thiruvalluvar Statue – The beautiful statue is dedicated to the successful poet and philosopher Thiruvalluvar. Perched upon a 38-foot pedestal, the statue is an important landmark in the coastal town.
    Gandhi Mandapam – Built to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, Gandhi Mandapam is the place where his ashes were kept before immersing them in the water. It is interesting to note that the monument is meticulously designed so that the sun rays on every 2nd October falls exactly on the same place where the ashes were kept.
    Kanyakumari Temple – Fondly known as the Bhagvaty Amman Temple, the shrine is one of the 108 Shakti Peeths of the Hindu Goddess.
    Kanyakumari Beach – An ideal place to spend quality time with family and friends, the Kanyakumari Beach offers amazing views of the sunrise, sunset, Vivekananda Memorial, the lighthouse and confluence of the Bay of Bengal, Indian Ocean and the Arabian Sea.
    Evening return to the hotel. Dinner & Overnight stay at Kovalam / Poovar.

Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary

The beautiful Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary is located in Kottayam district in Kumarakom, Kerala. The sanctuary is located in the enchanting backwaters of Kerala on the banks of Lake Vembanad, which is why it is also known as the Vembanad Bird Sanctuary. Kumarakom is one of the most famous tourist attractions in Kerala, home to many native and migratory birds. A wide range of rare birds make it an attractive place for birdwatchers. 

There is an exciting walk of about 2 kilometres to reach the end of the site and people can see various birds walking on the trail. The trip itself is amazing as there is a small butterfly garden on the way. One Can spot a number of rare and exotic species of birds. To name a few, there are Waterfowl, Cuckoo, Brahminy Kite, Siberian Crane, Parrot, Flycatcher, Lark, and numerous migratory birds from the Himalayan region.

One can also take a boat ride in Vembanad Lake and enjoy picturesque scenery when surrounded by bright blue water.

The best time to visit the sanctuary is from November to February as migratory birds from different parts of the world come here at this time. It can also be seen during June to August, as there can be lots of local birds.

Half N Hour Sunset cruise on Vembanad Lake
