Banasura Sagar Dam

One of the most visited places in Wayanad, the Banasura Sagar Dam.Well Known as India's tremendous earthen dam, it boasts extensive natural beauty with beautiful flora and fauna, majestic hills and towering springs. Banasura Sagar Dam is a photographer's hub and offers the most beautiful views from the hilltop.

It is also eminent among adventure enthusiasts who look forward to an adventurous venture like boating, trekking, horse racing and camel riding. For avid trekkers, the Banasura hilltop has been ranked as the most challenging trek. Besides this, the Banasura Hill Resort adds to the glamour of the place, which is known as the only 'clay resort' in the country.

The best season to visit Banasura Sagar Dam is from November to May. You can also visit temples like Sri Nath Temple, Nirur Shiva Temple & Sri Ayyappa Temple near Banasura Sagar Dam.

Edakkal Caves

Located about 25 km from Kalpetta, Edakkal Caves are located in the remote island of Edakkal. The caves are one of the largest tourist destinations in South India.


Every year, thousands of tourists visit the caves to examine its natural beauty and mythological status. There are many legends and tales about the construction of the caves. Let's look at the history and attractions of the caves.

Edakkal Caves are famous for their portrait paintings: humans, animals, symbols and letters. Inside the Edakkal caves, you can grasp Stone Age carvings on the Caves Rock of the inner caves. The work leaves you in wonder and the carvings are believed to be from the Neolithic and Mesolithic ages.

The trek from Ambukuthi hill to Edakkal caves is a great experience. Watch out for the magnificent coffee plantations along the path of the caves from the base of Ambukuthi hill. On the way you will also grasp carvings of Adam, Eve and Satan from the Bible. There is a nice little hut that serves delicious snacks on the way to the caves.

Pookat Lake

Pookot Lake is one of the major attraction in Wayanad which is naturally beautiful with a backdrop of mountains the name of the place literally means flower lake. Surrounded by lush greenery all around, this idyllic lake, with its breath-taking scenic beauty and peaceful ambience, mesmerizes every tourist. It is spread across an area of 8.5 hectares. It is the smallest and highest freshwater lake in Kerala. It is shaped almost like the map of India and it acts as a haven for freshwater fish and a lot of blue lotus flowers. The pathway around the lake is lined by thick bushes and tall trees which further add to the overall charm.The freshwater lake filled with plenty of fun boating facilities, a children’s park, handicrafts and spices emporium. A fresh-water aquarium filled with an excellent array of fishes is a major attraction for tourists on their tour to Pookot Lake. There is a circular track around the lake and one can take a walk or even sit on the benches. The place is serene, unspoiled and hypnotising.The best way to spend time here is to enjoy the environment and quiet surrounding. Chembra Peak Trek

The trek begins modestly with uphill tea gardens, but then it gathers speed and gravity. The mountain rises slowly under your feet, which you can feel in your calf muscles. Stop. Take a deep breath. Let's go again. The mountain air freshens your lungs. Gradually panoramic views of the valleys come out of the morning air to catch your attention.


Heart-shaped pond: After a gap of one hour, with the mouth open, you stand on the edge of the pond carefully placed on a bed of crispy green meadows. Nature has not done its symbols to convey how much you still love, your eyes look at the magnificent view of the heart-shaped pond that you have wanted to see all your life. It is about 3 km trek from base camp.


This is a full day package organized by the Forest Department. The best time to visit is from August to May.

Soochipara Waterfalls

Soochipara Falls is a three pheasant waterfall in Vellarimala, Wayanad. Surrounded by thick green forest, this waterfall is also known as Sentinel Rock Waterfall. A 20-minute drive from Meppadi in Wayanad will take you to this magnificent waterfall. The name Soochipara means '‘soochi’' and 'Para' means 'rock' and 'needle'. The given name is appropriate because you can see needle-shaped rock here.

To reach the waterfall, you have to walk about 2 km, where vehicles cannot go further. You will have to pay a nominal fee for entry and camera. From the entrance you need to descend to reach waterfalls. The water here falls below an altitude of 100 to 200 feet and this waterfall is an ideal place for trekking and rock climbing. You can see a pool under this waterfall and here you can go for swimming and bathing.

The best time to visit Soochipara Waterfall is in rainy season as you can see this waterfall in its entirety. The place is well connected to nearby places. Therefore, you will have no difficulty in reaching here.
