Hospet T B Dam
This city was built by Krishna Deva Raya in 1520 AD, a famous ruler of Vijayanagara Era. He built this city in memory and honor of his mother Naagalaambika. The former name of Hospet was Naagalapura, but people called it as Hosa Pete, meaning- a new city. Naagalapura is still the name used by tourists coming from the West. The Tungabhadra Dam is one of the major reasons why Hospet is so famous. Tourists from all over the country visit this place in order to witness one of India’s oldest Dams.

Vijaya Vitthala Temple
The temple was built in the 15th century during the rule of Devaraya II. He was one of the rulers of the Vijayanagara Empire. The temple is dedicated to Vittala and is also called Vijaya Vittala Temple; Vittala is also said to be an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. As per the legends, the temple was built for Lord Vishnu in his Vittala form, but when he found that the temple was very grand in nature, he returned to live in his modest home in Pandharpur.
The Vittala Temple has some gorgeous stone structures, such as the stone chariot and the musical pillars. Both these structure speaks a ton about the unmatched craftsmanship of that period. This temple in Hampi draws people from all part of the world, yet is mostly in shambles.

Statue of Ugra Narasimha Temple
This is the largest statue in Hampi. Narasimha is sitting on the coil of a giant seven-headed snake called Sesha. The heads of the snake acts as the hood above his head. The god sits in a cross-legged Yoga position with a belt supporting the knees.
Sometimes this is referred as Ugra Narasimha (i.e. Narasimha in its terrifying form). The protruding eyes and the facial expression are the basis for this name.
The original statue contained the image of goddess Lakshmi, consort of the god, sitting on his lap. But this statue has been damaged seriously during the raid leading to the fall of Vijayanagara. Even the damaged portion of such a large statue of Lakshmi carved on his lap is missing. Probably it may be laying around in tiny pieces. But the goddess’s hand is visible resting on his back in embracing posture. If you get a chance to go inside this enclosure, it is possible to see the hand of the goddess. Even the nails & the rings on her fingers are so perfectly executed.
Lion face of Lakshmi Narasimha also sometimes called as Unganarasimha (the ferocious Narasimha)

The set of four cave temples were built over a period of time and three of them are dedicated to Hindu deities & the fourth one is devoted to Jainism. The temples are connected to each other by flights of stairs.
The first Badami cave temple is also the oldest & is dedicated to the dancing form of Lord Shiva, popularly known as Nataraja. There are more than 80 different forms of Nataraja depicted in this red sandstone cave temple.
The second cave temple is famous for its ceiling carvings. This temple is that of Lord Vishnu, depicted in Trivikarma form. Some of the carvings include scenes from the Puranas & Vishnu on Garuda.
The third cave temple is also dedicated to Lord Vishnu, some of the carvings here depict the deity in many forms including Trivikarma, Vamana & the man-lion Narsimha. One of the highlight of this cave temple is the statue of Vishnu sitting on the serpent Adisesha. Murals in the temple depict the marriage of Shiva & Parvati.
The fourth cave temple is devoted to the founder of Jainism, Lord Mahavira, depicted in the seated posture. It is estimated that this temple was built almost a century after the previous three. The highlight of this temple is the Tirthankara Parshavanatha carvings (with a snake at the feet).
The Badami cave temples is a UNESCO designated world heritage site. The cave temples are lasting remnants of a golden age of building styles. Featuring a style that blends the Nagara style from the north with Dravidian elements, the temples stand on the precipice of a hill & watch over the surrounding valley like auspicious spiritual windows.
