Day wise travel itinerary

  • Day 1 :Arrival in Chennai

    Arrive in Chennai and check into your hotel. Spend the day at leisure, relaxing and settling in after your journey. No sightseeing activities are planned for the first day. Take this time to unwind and explore the local area around your hotel if you wish. Have dinner and rest, preparing for the sightseeing days ahead.

  • Day 2 :Chennai Sightseeing and Drive to Mahabalipuram

    Start your day by visiting Marina Beach, the longest urban beach in India. Explore the stunning architecture of Kapaleeshwarar Temple and visit the San Thome Basilica. After lunch, head to Fort St. George, a historical landmark. In the late afternoon, drive to Mahabalipuram (approximately 60 km). Check into your hotel and relax for the evening, making sure you're back by 7 PM.

  • Day 3 :Mahabalipuram Sightseeing

    Begin your day with a visit to the Shore Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Continue to the Pancha Rathas and admire the rock-cut architecture. Explore the Arjuna’s Penance and Krishna’s Butterball, marveling at these ancient sculptures. In the afternoon, visit the Mahabalipuram Beach for a relaxing stroll. Return to your hotel by 7 PM to unwind for the evening.

  • Day 4 :Mahabalipuram to Pondicherry

    After breakfast, start your drive to Pondicherry (approximately 100 km). Arrive in Pondicherry and check into your hotel. In the evening visit the French War Memorial. Explore the charming French Quarter with its colonial buildings. Spend the rest of the evening at leisure, returning to your hotel by 7 PM.

  • Day 5 :Pondicherry Sightseeing

    Start your day by visiting the Manakula Vinayagar Temple and Visit Aurobindo Ashram, a serene spiritual retreat. Head to Auroville to experience the unique community and visit the Matrimandir. Visit the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. End your day by visiting Serenity Beach before heading back to your hotel by 7 PM.

  • Day 6 :Pondicherry to Chennai Airport Drop

    After breakfast, check out from your hotel and drive back to Chennai (approximately 150 km). No sightseeing is planned for today. Ensure you arrive at Chennai Airport by 7 PM for your departure

Shore Temple

The Shore Temple is the icon of the ancient monuments of Mahabalipuram. The temple gets its name from its location on the Coromandel shore overseeing the Bay of Bengal. The sculptural excellence symbolizes the heights of Pallava architecture. The Dravidian sort of architecture dates back to the 7-8th century. It was built under the rule of King Narsimha Varma. The structural designs are often only called ‘poetry in stone’. It has been an UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1984.
Erected on a 50 feet square platform, the temple may be a pyramidal structure rising to the heights of 60 feet.
The Shore Temple has three shrines, dedicated to Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu. The main temple is a five-storeyed structure sculpted out of granite dedicated to Lord Shiva. The pyramidal structure is 60 feet (18 m) high and sits on a 50 feet (15 m) square platform.
Shore Temple is no more a temple worshipped. The structure of the temple is awe-inspiring, it had been erected basically as a piece of art. In the present day, Shore Temple makes the background of Mahabalipuram Dance Festival held annually in January/ February. The festival was organized to market the normal dance also as tourism in Mahabalipuram.

Pancha Rathas

The Pancha Rathas are a gaggle of majestic structures present within the locality of Mahabalipuram within the state of Tamil Nadu . Constructed during the seventh century, by Raja Narasimhavarman of the Pallava dynasty, the work was left unfinished after the death of this king. The specialty of the structures is that they have each been carved from a single rock of granite into a ratha (chariot). Named after the five Pandava brothers and their wife, Draupadi, of the epic of Mahabharata, the structures are in no way related to the story and the name was born out of local usage. This beautiful work of art is a definite must visit and has been named a UNESCO Heritage Site for its architecture and design. These structures have stood strong throughout the ages and are a perfect representation of the dedicated work carried out at during the olden ages.

Arjuna’s Penance or Descent of Ganges

The penance of Arjuna is one of the magnificent monuments of Mahabalipuram. This amazing base air relief dates back to the center of the seventh century. Standing at a height of 43 feet, the monolith was engraved on the face of two huge adjacent boulders, approximately 96 feet in length. The majestic structure cannot be made in photographs, it is worthy of praise with one's own eyes. The subject of the huge structure is either the penance of Arjuna or the descent of the Ganges, or possibly both. The relief structure includes views of the natural and celestial worlds. A natural waterfall inhabited by Nagas (snakes) separates the 2 parts of the relief. The waterfalls, mimicking this waterfall or the descent of the Ganges. Life-size elephants in the natural world are shown protecting their young. There are many other animals as well. The entire presentation is done with the utmost skill. Krishna's Butter Ball

Mahabalipuram in Tamil Nadu can easily be called because the ‘Magical land of God’. This small town has a very special boulder, which originally is called the ‘Vaar Iran Kal’ that translates to ‘Sky God’s Stone’. This huge ball of rock has been balancing itself on a sloping hilltop since time immemorial. The boulder is now called ‘Krishna’s Butter Ball’. The tale goes that Lord Krishna loved butter and sometimes would steal it. One day he dropped a big dollop of butter that became the giant stone. Some local legends have another version where they believe this stone is just like the vessel Lord Krishna often notoriously stole butter from. This gigantic attraction which is immovable has found its thanks to numerous photo albums of tourists from everywhere the planet . This rock is even heavier than the monolithic stone of Peru or Machu Picchu.
