Motithang Takin Preserve Centre
The Motithang Takin Preserve is a wildlife reserve protecting takin (Budorcas taxicolor), Bhutan's national animal. It is located in the Motithang district of Thimphu, Bhutan.Early dawn is the greatest time to see the takin up close, as they congregate along the fence to feed.. The most striking traits of this species are its enormous noses, large heads, and hefty torsos, which set it apart from others. The animal's origins are based on a mythological story with religious overtones.Drukpa Kunley, a prominent Buddhist yogi, is said to have created the animal with the body of a cow and the head of a cow, according to legend. This animal's migratory nature is one of its most notable characteristics.
Zangthopelri Lhakhang
Built on a hillock, in the heart of Phuentsholing is situated the Zangtho Pelri Lhakhang, a temple dedicated to Guru Rinpoche, the founder of Tibetan Buddhism. It is known to represent the celestial abode of the guru. It offers great views of the town and surrounding area.
The temple is in Park, which has a lovely ambience. It is a social hub of Phuentsholing. Lovers flock to this spot for impromptu dates, tourists and monks walk around. Chants can be heard often. The park is well maintained and one can sit back and relax with a book and coffee.
The small temple contains some fine examples of Buddhist drawings. The temple symbolizes the heaven as envisioned by Guru Rinpoche. The temple's floor has the huge paintings depicting life of Buddha. Another attraction of the temple are the statues of 8 manifestations of Guru Rinpoche.
